In some of its locations, it acts as a marketplace and serves as an anchor to many known Filipino businesses such as Chowking and Red Ribbon. In other locations, Seafood City also features locally-owned Filipino video rental stores, immigration offices, travel agencies, and restaurants.Seafood City opened its first store in San Diego, California in 1989. Today, it has exapanded to 17 stores in California, with a concentration of locations in the Greater Los Angeles Area, San Diego County, Northern California and Sacramento . Further expansion has led the company to open two markets in Las Vegas, Nevada and one in Seattle (Tukwila, Washington). Currently, another location is in development in Hawaii and is scheduled to open in 2013
